What to Expect

WHAT TO EXPECT

I see the beauty in people, and I see memories waiting to be captured. Unique images of character, personality, the bond between families or couples are what I strive to document. I am not your cookie cutter photographer, I approach everything in a journalistic style, and I want to catch everyday moments in their true light. I want to capture your memories.

The photographic art you choose to place on your wall is ultimately the result of the vision of the photographer. This vision, coupled with what you wear to your session, the environment, the lighting, even the mood the subjects are in at the time of photographing creates the work that you will want to proudly display on your walls forevermore.

BEFORE THE SESSION

First, I like to have an in-depth consultation prior to our session when we can discuss the type of artwork you would like for your walls. In this discussion, we’ll go over your lifestyle..what makes sense for your family..what location is best suited. Then we’ll discuss time of day for our session. Early morning and evening work best from an outdoor lighting standpoint. I like to shoot when the lighting is sweet and soft. I understand that every family dynamic is best suited for either an early morning or an afternoon session. On the east cost of FL, the early morning session is a real treat with the sun coming up and lighting the beach in such a beautiful way..it’s becoming more and more popular since our FL weather is typically the best at that time of day..as well as much cooler than the afternoon sun.

Then, we talk what to wear. My suggestion is always to have fun with your session for yourself and your family. Bring one or more special outfits that are comfortable and fit well. Jeans and bare feet are always great. For families, try to coordinate your family’s clothing in a simple way such as different shades of the same color, same colors, or same style.

As a general rule, collared shirts photograph best for men, t-shirts will work if you layer them with a collared one. I am not adverse to color..consequently…I love it . Just keep it coordinated and you can’t go wrong. Clothing with texture detail also photographs very well. A hooded knit sweater and jean jacket give your clothing depth and texture without overwhelming the image. Plus, you can take a piece off and have a whole different look! Interesting clothing from Chasing Fireflies or classics from the Gap always insure a timeless image. I like the girls to look like girls..so dresses, skirts or capris are appropriate. I also like feminine necklines..so show you personality, express yourself with your clothing choices and you’ll be happy with the end result. Please, please, please, avoid clothing with logos, cartoon characters and plaids. Shoes should be simple and understated; bare feet actually look best!

DURING THE SESSION

Your session with me includes a one hour shoot either at your home or at a location of our choosing; beach, garden or park. I like to conduct the session in a fun and unstructured way. I like to go with the flow..so to speak. We’ll start with some simple posing..some candid shooting and some traditional sets. I like to keep the children engaged so we may move our sets quite a bit to keep everyone interested and having fun. I like to continually talk to everyone during our session to stay relaxed. One hour is our typical session time, it is typically the attention span of children and adults alike.

I DON’T SAY “CHEESE”. I am a “cheese” free photographer..lactose intolerant if you will. I prefer to keep everyone engaged in conversation and happy thoughts for more natural smiles and expressions. When you say cheese all we get is what I call “skeleton” smiles…no emotion.

I shoot a lot. I typically shoot upwards of 300 images in an hour session. I like to capture everything I see that will tell the story of your family..so my shutter will be running from the instant we get to our location to the time you get back into your car to leave..:)

AFTER THE SESSION

Immediately following our session, I like to post between 5-10 highlights as a sneak peak on Rhea Lewis Photography — Lasting Impressions facebook page and my blog with your permission. The complete set of images will be ready for review within a few weeks. I like to take some time to get you a nicely edited set of proofs. The images will be digitally enhanced, with my unique color techniques and slight imaging enhancement. When the complete set is ready for review, I’ll contact you for a viewing at my studio where we can go over pricing packages and printing options for your family’s art. After the Viewing and your initial order, an online proof album will be available for additional family and friends to view and purchase.

I book a limited number of shoots per month.

My fee is subject to change in 2010.
