About me — I am an Artist who happends to be a Photographer.
Hello, and thank you for visiting Rhea Lewis Photography — Lasting Impressions by Rhea.
I am originally from Connecticut and am a true lover of the New England scenery. Florida is my home now where I live with my Florida native husband and our son. I have learned to appreciate the scenery of Florida — it’s just more subtle, yet just as beautiful. You can get the girl out of New England, but you can’t get New England out of the girl — I visit every year…summer only! As long as I can remember, I have been a visual person, an observer of the world around me, a true artistic soul. Photography had an early draw, but with the cost of film and the need for a darkroom, my creative passion took a back seat.
I had ability in math and science as well as art, and my dad, a very wise man, suggested engineering in college where I could have financial independence. Well that sounded good to me and I graduated from college with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Connecticut and then an MBA in Aviation from Embry-Riddle University. After a 13 year successful engineering career at Pratt & Whitney, I went to work for my Dad’s engineering company for another five years. It was during this time that the digital age of photography came into being — I was hooked instantly.
I was fascinated with the digital darkroom and with a powerful software program called Adobe Photoshop. For those of you who know this program, this is not easy to learn. I was lucky enough to take an amazing class from an extremely talented teacher at the Palm Beach Photographic Center that changed my life and unleashed creativity I never knew existed. Soon I had a yearning to learn everything possible about the art of photography. Soon thereafter I weaned myself off engineering and began the creative chapter of my career. I have learned (and will continue to learn) from some of the world’s leading and most talented photographers. I feel truly blessed and incredibly lucky to do what I do. I am eternally grateful to my husband, who thought he married an engineer and came to find out married an artist.
My photography style could be described as natural, clean and honest — what I like to call lifestyle photography. I strive to capture true personality (which does not always include a big "say cheese" smile). Sometimes the best portraits can be found in a tear rolling down a cheek, a big belly laugh, or a shy peek at the camera. I am always looking for the emotion of the moment, the life within the shot, the beauty of the situation which isn’t always perfect. Life isn’t perfect — real people…real photography…real moments are what keeps me doing what I do and what feeds my passion. Turning life into fine portraiture is my specialty — your life…your masterpiece…simple as that.
Having a child of my own made me realize that children grow up fast and they seem to change every day. Children’s portraiture is so wonderful because children are so pure and innocent in their emotions. Every moment is filled with story and drama.
Capturing those moments and preserving the memories of those innocent years is truly a gift — one I feel so privileged to present to you. With me as your photographer, I treat you as my friend — share your life with me and in return, I provide you with memories you can treasure!
In 2004, when I created my business name — Lasting Impressions — I was searching for a way to represent what I was all about…my brand, my style. After I began developing my portfolio, beginning to develop my portraiture style — client feedback said the images left a lasting impression, an emotional impact on the viewer — a new business was born!
My every effort is to leave you with a lasting impression — a beautiful portrait that leaves an emotional mark on you…an image that lingers long after you have seen it…a forever memory.
